His daughter stayed with her aunt for the entirety of November and the first week of December. It was at that point she decided to come home. Once Miles received her coming home call, I had already mentally prepared myself to leave and return to my one-bedroom apartment with my two cats. I stood before the sky blue painted, vintage style, opened the top drawer and started to take my clothes out when Miles put his hand over mine and asked, "Where are you going?"
Miles cupped my chin with his calloused hands so I was looking into his eyes. "I thought I made it clear. You are home."
His cool eyes looking down at me felt like looking into the sun. My cheeks were ablaze under his deep gaze. No matter how I struggled to keep my eyes from watering, I couldn't blink or look away. I knew all I was to him was a source of comfort, that he was using me for his own emotional needs. I also knew he was not aware that was what this was. All he knew was that he need me. That was enough.
A couple of tears finally fled from behind my eyelids as his tough lips melted into mine. I sighed into his mouth with relief and excitement. My heart felt like a balloon about to burst as our tongues met. Miles pulled me away from the dresser and I fell onto the bed with a gasp. He leaned over me, brushing my auburn hair off my face and looking so deep into my eyes I felt as though he was reading into my soul. I was about to ask him if he was sure this was what he wanted, when he hushed my lips with his. Tangled together and gasping for air, we united as one burning flame.
